The Summer of Seeing Clearly: Listen to the Sky

Something remarkable is unfolding in the sky this summer and if you have been feeling it in your body, in your sleep, in your emotions, in the quiet moments between the noise of daily life, you are not imagining it.

Ten days after the Full Moon, we arrive at one of the most celebrated dates in spiritual and astrological communities, the Lion's Gate Portal, observed every year on August 8th, or 8/8. Associated with the zodiac sign Leo and the luminous star Sirius, one of the brightest stars in our night sky, the Lion's Gate Portal is understood as a period of heightened energy for personal growth, manifestation, and inner transformation. In numerology, 8/8 carries the energy of infinite possibility, abundance, and cycles completing and beginning again.

This is not a day for grand gestures or major decisions. It is a day for quiet, intentional inner work. Sit with your journal. Return to your meditation cushion. Pull out the intentions you set at the beginning of the year. Yes, the ones you may have quietly let slide as summer pulled your attention outward and look at them honestly. Which ones still feel alive? Which ones were never really yours to begin with? The Lion's Gate asks a simple but profound question: What habits, fears, or beliefs are you still carrying that no longer help you move forward? Not because you are failing but because you have grown beyond them.

Four days after the Lion's Gate Portal, the sky goes dark in the middle of the day.  On August 12th, a total solar eclipse crosses Greenland, Iceland, and northern Spain and a partial eclipse is visible across much of North America. Even if you cannot see it with your eyes, you will likely feel it in your energy, your emotions, and your body. In astrological tradition, solar eclipses are understood as powerful initiations, moments when the universe accelerates our evolution whether we feel ready or not. They bring endings and beginnings simultaneously. They reveal what has been hidden. They close chapters that have run their course and open doors we did not know were there.

This is not a day for making important decisions. This is a day for bearing witness. For stillness. For letting the energy of what is being revealed move through you without rushing to act on it. Eclipses are not moments for doing, they are moments for receiving. In your practice on August 12th, whether that is asana, pranayama, meditation, or simply sitting quietly with your hands on your heart, ask yourself not what you should do, but what you are being shown. The difference matters.

Two weeks after the solar eclipse, the cycle completes. On the night of August 27th into the early morning of August 28th, a partial lunar eclipse rises over North America. At its peak, Earth's shadow covers 96% of the Moon's face. The Moon will glow orange, copper, and red, like a Blood Moon, visible to the naked eye with no special equipment needed.

If the solar eclipse on August 12th showed you what needs to begin, the lunar eclipse on August 28th illuminates what needs to end. Lunar eclipses are deeply emotional events, they bring revelations, completions, and the kind of clarity that can only come after you have sat with something long enough to truly understand it. What the Full Moon of July first stirred, what the Lion's Gate helped you name, what the solar eclipse initiated the lunar eclipse brings to a point of conscious release.  Again, this is not a day for major decisions, it is a day for allowing and for honoring what you are releasing while acknowledging how far you have actually come.

As a yoga community, we understand something that mainstream culture often forgets: the body is not separate from the spirit. The emotions are not separate from the physical. What lives in the gut, the hips, the chest, the throat, these are not inconveniences to be managed, these feelings are messengers, so listen up!! I've been dealing with body issues that are causing pain from head to toe, seeing doctor after doctor. I'm finally listening and taking some time off in August to heal. I hope you will too if you can.

This summer from the Full Moon of July through the Lunar Eclipse of August 28th your body may feel more than usual with your sleep shifting and emotions surfacing that feel disproportionate to their immediate cause. Old patterns, old relationships, old stories about who you are may feel suddenly louder. This is not something going wrong, however, this is everything going right. The shadows that surface during Full Moons and eclipses are not your enemies but the parts of yourself that have been waiting patiently in the dark for you to be ready to see them. And when you see them, really see them, with compassion rather than judgment they lose the power they held over you in the dark. Let them go and walk into the light feeling lighter :)

So here is the invitation that this remarkable summer is offering:

Slow down. In the heat of August, when the pace of 2026 has been relentless and you are already tired, choose slowness as a practice rather than a failure. FAIL is First Attempt In Learning :)

Feel into your feelings. Not analyze them, not fix them, not talk yourself out of them. Just feel them. Let them move through the body the way they were always meant to.

Listen to what your body is telling you. The gut knows things the mind is still catching up to. The tightness in the chest is speaking. The tension in the shoulders has been speaking for a long time. This is the season to finally listen.

Do not make major decisions on eclipse days. August 12th and August 28th are days for receiving, not acting. Let the dust settle. Let the revelations clarify. Decisions made in the immediate energy of an eclipse often need to be revisited when the sky is clear again.

Ask yourself honestly with 2026 moving as fast as it has, what path have you been following? Was it chosen from the inside, from the quiet knowing of who you truly are? Or was it handed to you from the outside, by culture, by expectation, by what you were told you should want? This is not a small question. It may be the most important question of the year.

A Quiet Practice for This Season:

In the days surrounding each of these events, the Lion's Gate, the Solar Eclipse and the Lunar Eclipse consider setting aside even fifteen minutes for one of these:

  • Journaling — not to find answers, but to ask better questions. Begin with: "What do I know that I have not been willing to say out loud?"

  • Meditation — with the specific intention of receiving rather than solving

  • Slow movement — yin yoga, restorative poses, or simply lying on the earth and breathing deeply

  • A dedicated ritual from your own spiritual practice — whatever connects you to something larger than the noise of daily life

The purpose is not to predict the future. It is to understand yourself more clearly. To make choices that come from your center rather than your fear. To remember in the heat of the summer and the momentum of a fast-moving year who you actually are underneath everything you do for everyone else.
