What is a Sun Salutation? The Sun Salutation, or Surya Namaskara (SOOR-yuh nah-muh-SKAR-uh), is a series of poses that connect with the breath. Sun Salutations help to build heat in the body and are often used as warm-up sequences for a yoga practice.
Why 108? 108 is said to be a sacred number in yoga for thousands of years. You will usually see Mala beads with 108 beads to help aid in meditation and/or keeping count of mantras while meditating.
Do I have to complete all 108? No. We chose 108 Sun Salutations as a challenge to our yogis that want to push themselves in their practice and for charity. But don't worry, we invite anyone to practice this with us and work toward this goal throughout the entire month, in or out of class.
